This is a lithograph duotone drawing of a character I created named Gilbert getting himself in quite a predicament.

Gilbert is a character I created during college. He wears a mask and finds himself in some precarious situations, such as in this piece being shackled in some stocks.  A few series in college involved GIlbert and clowns, being a theme of masks. Everyone wears a “mask” at some point; very few people open up wholeheartedly to everyone they meet. So Gilbert was a physical depiction of the mask that we wear in society and public. There are only a very select few people that we open up to, and the same goes for Gilbert. However, that masking usually leads to some awkward situations, such as being held a prisoner.
